Jnana Mudra or Mudra of Wisdom
Jnana mudra is classic energy sealing mudra used in meditations. Jnana is a Sanskrit word which means knowledge. Jnana Mudra is performed to increase brain power, improve memory, attaining peace and to remove tension. This will balance vayu in our body and steadies the mind. Mostly this mudra will be done while meditation.
Formation and Effect: This mudra is formed by joining together the tips of the thumb and the index finger. Air (vayu) causes movements and thoughts. Fire (agni) is related to the brain. Si when the tips of the index finger and the thumb join together the vayu gets stabilized. Vayu and Agni together control the mind. That is the reason this mudra is called Jnana mudra.
In astrology, Guru (Jupiter) is the karaka for jnana or knowledge. Index finger represents the energy of the Jupiter. So when index and thumb fingers connect, the Jupiter energy flows in body.
